Part 1 of 3 - Discover subreddits

ORGANIZE SUBREDDITS WITH NOTES AND STATUSES

Step 1: Understand How to Pick Subreddits That Will Help You Grow

The most important step when starting is selecting subreddits that will help you grow, not get you banned. Most people target the most popular subreddits with hundreds of thousands or millions of users, but that’s exactly what you should avoid.

Popular subreddits are crowded with established users who already have high karma. They have strict entrance requirements, complex rules, and harsh moderation. When everyone wants to post there, moderators become extremely selective to maintain quality.

Instead, target smaller, growing subreddits. The sweet spot is communities with 2,000 to 100,000 users.

Here’s why smaller subreddits work better:

  • Welcoming communities – Growing subreddits actively welcome new content
  • Higher engagement – Smaller communities have more active, invested users
  • Relaxed moderation – Less strict rules and friendlier moderators
  • Better visibility – Your quality content gets seen by more people
  • Targeted audience – Niche communities convert better to your other platforms

Now that we’ve identified our target group, let’s build a list!

Step 2: Discover and save subreddits

Use our subreddit finder tool to discover relevant communities. The more specific your search terms, the better your results will be.

From there, you start building your custom list of subreddits by clicking the star next to each subreddit name. This creates your personalized subreddit list that you can reference and manage over time.

Important: At this stage, add all potentially relevant subreddits to your list, even ones that might not be perfect fits. We’ll evaluate requirements, size, and suitability in the next step. This prevents you from forgetting which subreddits you’ve already analyzed – with thousands of subreddits on Reddit, it’s easy to lose track.

How to build your subreddit list summary:

  1. Search for subreddits using relevant keywords
  2. Add any potentially relevant subreddit to your list (don’t filter yet)
  3. Click the star next to subreddit names to save them
  4. Repeat with different search terms and variations
  5. Aim for a comprehensive list – you can always come back and extend it later

Once you’ve built your discovery list, you can manage it from your subreddit dashboard. In the next step, we’ll organize and evaluate each subreddit properly.
